The North East of Scotland Society of Anaesthetists (NESSA)
The inaugural meeting of NESSA was held in the surgical lecture theatre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Friday 27th May 1960, with Dr W N Rollason in the chair
The stated objects of the society are to disseminate knowledge and enhance the practice of anaesthetics, to form a medium for an exchange of ideas and to promote harmony and good fellowship among anaesthetists.
Over the years the format of meetings of the society has varied, but currently there are three evening meetings per year, held at the training centre in Stracathro Hospital. The programme of events is registered with The Royal College of Anaesthetists and each meeting attracts one CPD point. In keeping with the objects of the society, in addition to the academic content, there is an opportunity for members of different anaesthetic departments to network and socialise during a supper served prior to the speaker or main event for the evening. As might be anticipated for a Scottish society, a once a year golf tournament offers yet more opportunities to promote harmony and good fellowship.
